First, an inspiring anecdote:
One night, in the city of San Francisco, several of my friends and I were celebrating my best friend’s birthday. She was turning 17. The events began with sake-bombing in a sketchy Japanese restaurant. As we exited the premises, slightly tipsy, we pranced down the street, teeming with a strong urge to dance. Just then, we heard generic salsa music seeping out of a small, lit up restaurant; a restaurant that we figured was a dance club that we could ease our way into.

Hello to whom ever may be reading this at any particular time. I am almost of of the institution in which we call High School; with only fifteen more days of actual, physical school left. For the latter of my time spent not learning I watch the news, read the news, and listen to the news. My favorite stations/broadcasters are: The MSNBC trio of Chris Matthews, Keith Olbermann, and Rachel Maddow, BBC News (on-line and on television) and of course, the brilliant and just across the Golden Gate Bridge, Mother Jones. Although I associate many of my viewpoints with the Peace and Freedom Party, I am, one, not old enough to vote yet (though Nader would have been my man) and, two, I’m not an American citizen. While the first parameter continues with no intervention, I have no desire to change the second. I would never die for a country that continues it’s imperialistic ways, nor would I die for a country that bases it’s virtues on old, outdated, laws that serve little purpose two hundred and twenty two years later. I am a Canadian citizen, a statement in which I feel much sounder stating than that of my country of residence. I know that Canada isn’t perfect either but the air does smell and taste so much fucking better than that of California, who even though have reduced the number of Stage 1 smog alerts from several hundred annually to just a few annually, is still the most polluted state in the nation. While I sit in my bed that’s situated in a dirty, greedy world, it’s hard to be optimistic about much. The other day I watched “Who Killed the Electric Car?”: one of the saddest movies I’ve ever seen but of course, they had to add an Utopian, idealized ending which gave it an unrealistically feel-good vibe. The future is bleak everybody.
